We are thrilled to present Phyllis Gustafson Marsilius as the honorary chair of the inaugural Junior League Gala.
In the 45 years that Phyllis has been a member of our League, she has led numerous efforts on behalf of Bridgeport’s children and the greater community. She greatly expanded the public’s engagement in the city’s schools during her 25 years as Coordinator of Volunteer Services. She led the formation of the Bridgeport Public Education Fund, the Adopt-A-School and mentoring programs, and grew the School Volunteer Association into an organization with over 1,000 volunteers.
Phyllis’ contributions to the community are extensive. Her Black Rock Bicentennial Committee involved hundreds of volunteers in 20 projects resulting in the first Black Rock Day and the founding of the Black Rock Community Council. Phyllis later chaired the Burroughs Home and led its conversion into the Burroughs Community Center and the establishment of the Burroughs Fund. Among her leadership roles with area non-profits, Phyllis was the first woman elected President of both the Rotary Club of Bridgeport and Junior Achievement of Western CT.
Phyllis has co-chaired the Junior League Sustainer Committee for the past five years and continues to give back to the community through her involvement with three Trusts and membership in P.E.O. She treasures time spent with her four grown children and their families.
