Help us advance literacy by supporting one of our signature projects – our partnership with United Way and Read to Grow allows us to provides books to at-risk children in our community. Since its inception in 2010, Leaguers Building Readers has collected and distributed tens of thousands of books.
Participate by donating your gently used books, purchasing new books and conducting book drives at work, local stores or at a dinner or child’s party.
Cook & Feed for Friends in Need
As part of our partnership with Operation Hope, a safe and healing shelter for homeless families. Cook & Feed is a program in which Leaguers meet once a month to prepare approximately 150 healthy, frozen meals that feed families of 4-6 people, filling empty food pantry freezers.
Neighborhood Impact
Partnering with the Thomas Hooker School in Bridgeport, we help foster literacy and impact students’ lives in a variety of ways including monthly Read Alouds, healthy eating programs, Star Student Receptions, and beautification projects in and around the elementary school.
Operation Hope Monthly Meal Preparation
As part of a longstanding partnership, we provide meals on a monthly basis for the residents of the Operation Hope homeless shelter.
Healthy Families 5K Run/Walk
We held our inaugural Healthy Families 5K Run/Walk fundraiser at Beardsley Park in November of 2014.Funds raised at this event help support the mission of our League and our community outreach projects. The fifth annual Run/Walk will be held in Spring of 2019.
Volunteer-a-thon
Join us in October 2018 for our first annual Volunteer-a-thon!
Together with our community partners and friends (and to complement our Healthy Families 5K) we are excited to launch our first-ever volunteer “marathon” with 26.2 hours straight of volunteering throughout our community.
